Canon EF 14mm lens

The Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L USM is an ultra wide-angle prime lens. It is the widest full-frame lens in the Canon EF series. Because it is corrected for a rectilinear projection, the field of view is less than that of the Canon 15mm fisheye. The front element of the lens is so prominent that it does not allow use of filters on the front. Filters are instead mounted on the rear. On August 20, 2007, Canon announced the EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM lens, which was later released in October. This lens dramatically improved sharpness and chromatic aberration, and is especially good at close focussing distances. It has replaced the earlier lens.

Amazing, amazing, amazing!

I bought this lens with a little trepidation - I hadn't used a lens this 'wide' before, and I wasn't quite sure what to expect.
However, all my concerns flew out of the window when I saw the results - they take your breath away! The images are pin-sharp, the clarity is absolutely outstanding, and sharp from edge-to-edge, back-to-front. This lens gets you to look at the world in a different way, and is a major boost to your creativity. It's now my favorite lens (behind my trusty 50mm, of course), and will be on the front-end of my camera for some time.
Expensive, undoubtedly, and I wouldn't bother unless you've got a full-frame digital EOS, but get this if you've got an EOS 5D/1D and you'll be hooked! Can't recommend it highly enough.

This lens works like I would expect to see in a premium Canon lens. I wish I could have spent a few extra bucks for the upgraded version.

This lens has been replaced by updated new EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM which offers better distortion control and higher contrast. Improvement is worthwhile.

this lens is one of my favorite it is great for landscapes but at the same time the autofocus is fast enough for me to be able to capture moving items as well. i have heard in other reports that the CA(chromatic aberation) can be seen around the edges of the image when using this lens but in thousands of images i have only noticed it a very few times.
