The Canon 550D is a fantastic camera.. It is everything they advertised it to be and more. The body is really lightweight, has a good grip and balance making it a lot easier to use. The images are sharp, crisp and bright. Its definitely better than the Nikon D90 in comparison. The 1080p Full HD video capture along with its wide array of features such as choice of frame rates, 3.5mm stereo microphone, the APS-C CMOS sensor etc..etc.. the puts the camera in an entirely different league altogether. Move over entry-level, hello Semi-professional..

Canon EOS 550D

When I decided to get a digital SLR I started with the Olympus E420. I soon found that that the lack of image stabilisation was a problem though and started looking for a replacement. I went for the Canon 550D because it has video capability and I'm glad I did. The only slight niggle is that in continuous shooting mode using the RAW format, you only get 6 shots before the buffer filles up, but to be fair, if I need more than that I make sure I have the right settings selected and change to shooting in jpeg format (for around 34 shots). In short, I'm delighted with this camera and more than happy with the kit lens that came with it!

Every thing you need in a DSLR

I'm sure that you did read more detailed reviews so ill make it simple. I have owned a 450D, 500D, Nikon D90 and this 550D and have used the 5D II. This is the best in my opinion.

Why?

- Great pictures.
- Light weight.
-Very capable sensor.
-Very reliable unlike Nikon D90.
-450D and 500D had an autofocus issue.

Video is great for professional but not for me. I want an auto focus and a motorised lens. An HD Panasonic camcorder will do just fine

Well I'm impressed..

I bought this camera mainly for taking video footage...

After putting a class 4 card in it the video stuttered slightly in 1080p but was fine in 720p. Picture taking was fast and the camera responded instantly to commands though.

Now it has a class 6 in it and this thing is AMAZING! There isn't anything to touch it for the price. 1080p running sweet as...

I must say it's not the 'point and shoot' experience that a camcorder offers, but if you're looking to make short, creative scenes and are prepared to tweak and adjust the various settings throughout then this will not disappoint! This camera is taking amateur filming to the next level.

Highly recommended.

I've finally made the switch from film to digital slr and what a revelation, this camera will surpass my talent for years to come.
It really does make everything easy, the auto settings are good and the creative settings excellent, but i'm having the most fun with manual.
This really is a camera for beginners or experienced amateurs alike.
