This is the first lens I've bought with image stabilisation, and it makes a big difference! I can now take photos at 1/40 and they still come out sharp. It's a bit on the big side, but it's worth it for the IS.

I was torn between buying the Canon 70-300mm and the far cheaper Tamon one. After doing quite a bit of research, I eventually decided to opt for the more expensive lens, and I think I made the right decision. The pictures I've taken with this lens have been really sharp and the image stabilisation has made it possible for me to take shots in lower light conditions. I'm mostly into wildlife photography, and using this lens at 300mm has provided me with some excellent shots.

I guess the only drawback really is the price. It is an excellent lens, but I think if you want the best pictures you generally have to spend more money to get the better quality lenses. I've also found the zoom lock button to be a bit fiddly, and I can't always turn it on when I expect to be able to. It's not a major problem, as I haven't had any lens creep on the lens yet.

Overall, I'd recommend this lens, if I had the money, I'd obviously plump for a 100-400mm but that's a bit out of my price range at the moment!!!
