After buying the superb Canon 40d iwas looking for a quality zoom that would cover most areas of my interest under £1000,canon out of the question so I plumped for the Sigma 50-500ex apo hsm.Big mistake not getting the is version , the reason was it is too heavy to hand hold so I aquired a pro monopod, second time of using at a race meeting the lens fell of the pod not very good Sigma. Contacted Mifsuds supplier and they suggested I send it to Sigma which i did and they sent me a new support handle . The problem was the screw on the pod only was held on by two threads design fault the new one was exactley the same so i took it to a locasl engineers who drilled it out to a decent depth and inserted a new spring thread job sorted. take not Sigma

I have owned the pre OS version (Nikon fit) for 4 years. No problems at all. The only way you could move up from this, is to go for a prime but that will cost you a fortune. ...
